Translating Names of Movies and TV Series From the Perspective of Linguistic Worldview

摘要

如今,影视剧在各国文化交流中起着日益重要的作用,影视剧名的翻译也随之引起了公众及学者的注意。与之前的研究有所不同,我们的研究站在了语言哲学的高度。确切地说,是基于语言世界观的理论。该理论由德国著名语言学家和语言哲学家威廉•冯•洪堡特率先提出，再主要由美国语言学家本杰明·李·沃尔夫加以阐述与发展，提出了所谓的“沃尔夫-萨丕尔假说”。本研究采用具体翻译实例作为研究样本,找出其中存在的问题,继而探索语言、文化等影响因素。最后提出了一些实用的剧名翻译方法，以及译者应该具备的基本素养。

Abstract

Nowadays, as movies and TV series are playing an increasingly important role in cultural exchanges, translation of the names of movies and TV series has also attracted the attention of both the public and people in the academic circle. Different from the previous studies, our study is based on linguistic philosophy. To be exact, it is based on the theory of Linguistic Worldview initiated by the famous German linguist and linguistic philosopher Wilhelm von Humboldt and developed and elaborated in the so-called “Whorf-Sapir Hypotheses” put forward majorly by the American linguist B. L. Whorf. Using specific examples of translation as the research samples to find out the problems involved, the study continues to explore the influential factors such as linguistic and cultural ones. Finally it offers some practical translation methods and comes up with basic requirements for a qualified translator.
