Escape and Return in Alice Munro's Runaway

摘要

艾丽丝门罗被誉为”当代最伟大的短篇小说家”，创作了很多优秀的作品。《逃离》是其中比较有研究价值和启示意义的一部。门罗在作品中刻画了很多个女性人物，通过对她们爱情和生活经历的描述来展现了那个时代女性对自由的向往以及对生活的妥协。

女性意识的成长在本文的体现是从逃离到回归的跨越。女主人公们对生活的不满而导致她们策划一次又一次的逃离，她们想要逃离家庭，逃离婚姻，但其实她们真正想要逃离的是无法令自己满意的自己。逃离过后，她们最终发现始终逃离不了生活的束缚所以她们选择了回归。门罗在叙事手法主要体现在叙述形式和双线的叙述进程两个方面，在缺失、隐藏、以及公开的叙述者这三种叙事方式下来解析文本，从而了解主人公当时的内心活动以及作者想表达的含义。

Abstract

Alice Munro was praised as “the greatest contemporary short story writer”. She created a lot of excellent works and Runaway was the one which has the most value in research and enlightenment. In the collection, she described the heroines’ experiences of love story and life to express their yearning for the freedom, better life and compromise to the reality. 

The growth of feminist consciousness was the change from escape to return. The heroines planned escape again and again because of the discontent with the life. They wanted to escape from family, from marriage, actually from themselves. However, they finally realized that they could not escape from the real life, so they returned. Munro’s narrative techniques are multiple narrative and nonlinear narrative time sequence. Absent, hidden and public narrators were used to analyze the work and express the inner thought of characters and the enlightenment of the author.
