An Analysis of Syntactic Transfer in College Students' English Writing

Abstracts
A large number of research results show that college students' English writing is influenced by their first language, and the Chinese college students' English writing has been one of the topics most concerned by many scholars and foreign language teachers. Researchers have also given a reasonable explanation of the factors that syntactic transfer must be taken into account in the writing of English. Based on the theory of language transfer, contrast analysis hypothesis, interlanguage theory, and relevant research results of the theory based on the proposed three hypotheses-contrastive analysis hypothesis, intermediary theory, marked theory- about college students' English writing in syntactic transfer, this paper analyzes English writing of the college students from the five major syntactic transfer errors. The aim is to help students reduce the syntactic transfer negative influence on English writing, improve students' English writing ability, stimulate teachers to reflect on their teaching methods and the college English writing teaching, and in this way the research has certain significance. It is hoped that the results of this study can help Chinese college students improve their English writing.
