A Study of the Differences Between Chinese and American Wedding Customs

摘要

婚礼是人一生中至关重要的一项内容，其中蕴含着丰富的文化内涵。婚礼作为一种形式，让人们充满期待和向往。我们可以通过五彩缤纷的婚礼习俗，婚礼形式来探讨中美婚礼文化的差异，从而探索共同发展的规律。随着现代科技和社会经济的快速发展，世界正在向全球化的趋势发展，各国之间的文化交流更加密切。不同地域，不同国家间有不同的婚礼习俗。通过比较，我们可以发现，中美两国的婚礼在形式上，如礼服，婚礼地点，婚宴过程，传统婚礼宣誓等方面都存在着很大的差异，而正是这些差异才促进了文化的多元性。本文将会从以上四点对中美婚礼做出详细的比较，并在此基础上结合中美之间的文化背景，价值观，宗教信仰等方面阐释造成婚礼文化差异的原因。通过对中美婚礼文化的探讨，使人们对中美婚礼文化的差异有进一步认识。

Abstract

Wedding is an essential part in a person’s life which containing abundant culture connotations. Wedding, as a form, can make people full of longing and expectation. We are able to discuss the Sino-American culture differences from the view of wedding customs and wedding forms, so as to seek the law of common development. With the rapid development of modern science and technology and national social-economy, the world tend to be globalization and culture communication tend to be closer among different countries. Different areas, different countries have different wedding customs. We can find that the wedding customs between China and America exists great disparities lying in forms by comparison, such as dresses, process，places and traditional vows. In this paper, the author will make a concrete comparison around the last four points to find the differences and the reasons which lead to the differences through culture background, culture values, and religious belief. By discussing Sino-American wedding culture, the author aims at helping people further recognize the differences in the Sino-American wedding customs.
