On Translation of Adjectives and Adverbs

摘要

多年来，许多语言学者一直致力于中译英或者英译中翻译理论和技巧的研究。但是，形容词和副词却没有得到足够的重视。本文将研究形容词和副词的翻译。但是，众所周知一切翻译理论、方法技巧都必须建立在语言的对比上。因此本文将通过对英汉两种语言的形容词和副词的对比研究，从构成，用法和句中位置入手，并结合若干实例，提出有效的形容词和副词的翻译方法。期望能帮助加强英文和中文学习者或者从事两国语言翻译的人们对形容词和副词的理解和使用，并提高译文质量。

Abstract

For years, E-C or C-E translation theories and techniques have been studied a lot. However, little research has been done to explore how to translate adjectives and adverbs. In this paper, the author will do that. But it is known that all the translation theories and tactics must be based on comparison of the source and target languages. Therefore, in this paper the author will compare the English adjectives and adverbs with Chinese ones, focusing on their formation, usage, and location in sentences, combine with a large number of concrete examples, and then put forward some practical translation methods complied with Chinese or English expression, hoping to help English and Chinese learners or translators enhance their understanding and using of adjectives and adverbs and then improve their translation quality.
