Analysis on the Translation of Linguistic Taboo in Desperate Housewives from the Perspective of Adaptation Theory

摘要

全球化时代的跨文化交际活动日益增多，禁忌语已成为人类社会生活和语言实践中必不可少的一部分。本文从顺应论角度分析《绝望的主妇》中禁忌语的翻译，从语言选择和交际语境两方面进行详细分析。语言的使用是在不同意识程度下为顺应交际的需要而不断做出选择的过程，人们在语言使用过程中不断作出灵活的选择以顺应语境关系。禁忌语翻译需顺应语言使用者、物理世界、社交世界和心理世界。本文对英语禁忌语的恰当使用和英语的学习有建设性的指导，有助于提高翻译能力，同时对外语教学和跨文化交际也有很好的借鉴意义。

Abstract

With the increasing cross-cultural communication activities in the era of globalization, taboo has become an essential part in the life of human society. This article studies the translation of linguistic taboo in Desperate Housewives from the perspective of Adaptation Theory. Choice-making and the adaptation to communicative context in the process of translation are analyzed in detail. Language using is a process of continuous choice making with difference degrees of salience, and people can make flexible choices in the process of language use. The translation of linguistic taboo should adapt to language users, physical world, social world and mental world. The thesis puts forward some constructive guidance for the proper use of English taboos and English learning. It can help to improve translation capacity and is also useful for foreign language teaching and intercultural communication.
