从《残树》看韩素音的寻根意识_英语论文
An Analysis of Han Suyin’s Roots in The Crippled Tree
摘要
韩素音,著名的英籍华裔女作家,在她的作品中,中国一直是韩素音创作的核心。欧亚混血儿的身份给韩素音带来了巨大的影响,使她拥有了更加独特的视角,来看待东西方文化之间的冲突与交融。《残树》是韩素音的第一本自传,故事的时间跨度为1885年至1928年,是韩素音自传中最生动精彩的一部,也是最能体现韩素音作品特点的一部。作者把自己家庭和童年的遭遇,置于当年时代历史背景下,生动形象反映出了近代与现代社会、历史的某些侧面。
本文通过与黄玉雪、汤婷婷等华裔作家,以及黑人作家亚历克斯·哈里的小说《根》进行对比分析,解读韩素音等华裔作家对其文化身份的焦虑以他们的寻根意识。解读韩素音追溯客家的族源的过程,与国内客家文化研究、文学研究相呼应,体现了她在寻求中国之根时所作出的执着而又艰巨的努力。本文目的是希望让更多的人了解韩素音,了解韩素音的根脉,以及希望有更多的人研究韩素音的作品。

Abstract
Han Suyin is a famous English Chinese female writer. In Han Suyin’s works, China has always been the core of her creation. The identity of the Eurasian has brought great influence to Han Suyin, so that she has a more unique perspective to analyze the conflict and blend between the Eastern and Western culture. The first autobiography of Han Suyin —The Crippled Tree spans a long period of time which ranges from 1885 to 1928. It is not only the most vivid one in Han Suyin autobiographies, but also the one best embodies the characteristics of her works. She placed her family and childhood experience in the era of historical background, reflecting vividly some aspects of history and modern society.
In this paper, analyzing the cultural identity of overseas Chinese writers and their root-seeking awareness such as Han Suyin, comparing with other American Chinese writers such as Huang Yuxue and Tang Tingting, as well as the author of Root — the black writer Alex Harry, analyzing Han Suyin’s process of tracing the Hakka’s ethnic origin, echoing with domestic Hakka cultural research and literature research, and embodying her persistent and arduous efforts in her root-seeking. The paper aims to make more people acquaint with Han Suyin and her root in China, and make more people do researches on Han Suyin’s works.
