从民族主义和后殖民的角度解读《英国病人》中的界限_英语论文
An Interpretation of Boundaries in The English Patient
摘要
迈克尔翁达杰是当代加拿大文坛著名的作家之一,他的诗歌在世界文坛享有盛誉,其小说《英国病人》更让他成为了国际瞩目的小说家。小说问世的当年,就一举荣获英语文学的最高奖——布克奖。而由之改编的同名电影更是在69届奥斯卡金像奖中一举夺得九项大奖。《英国病人》蕴含着不同一般小说的深刻含义,它融战争、爱情、道德、民族身份多层含义于一体,被誉为一部宏大而精致的史诗,也是有极具研究价值文学作品。
本论文尝试从民族主义和后殖民的角度分析该小说。本课题由引言,结语及中间三个章节组成。第一章节分为两部分。第一部分简要介绍了作者,作品以及国内外对该作品的研究情况;第二部分主要阐述了本文所用的理论,对后殖民主义及民族主义进行介绍。第二、三章是本文的主体部分。第二章解析小说中存在的不同界限。第三章分析四个主人公对二战背景下产生的不同界限的思考与跨越。
本论文研究的意义在于呼吁人们认识到世界应该允许多元文化的存在,人们应该和谐平等地生活在这个世界上,避免因为种族歧视,观念的不同而造成不同国家,不同民族的隔阂。

Abstract
Michael Ondaatje is one of the famous writers of contemporary Canadian literature, his poems have enjoyed a high reputation in the literary world in the world. But the novel The English Patient let him become an international remarkable novelist. When the novel came out, he won the highest prize in English literature— Booker Prize. And the film adaptation of the same name received nine Academy Awards at the 69th Academy Awards. Unlike many other novels, the thematic meanings of The English Patient are extraordinarily deep and profound. It contains the massive multiple elements of the war, love, morality, and identity and hence is well-recognized as a magnificent epic masterpiece. The English Patient is without doubt a great literature work of great values of deep serious study and it worth us to research deeply.
This paper intends to analyze The English Patient from the perspective of nationalism and postcolonialism. This paper is composed of introduction, conclusion and other three chapters. The first chapter is divided into two parts. The first part briefly introduces the writer, works as well as the domestic and foreign research situation of the work; the second part mainly expounds the theory, makes introduction to postcolonialism and nationalism. The third and forth parts are the main body of the thesis. Chapter 2 of this paper interprets the different boundaries in the novel. Chapter 3 analyzes the four characters’ different consideration and transcendence of boundaries during the World War II.
This paper aims at urging people to realize that the world should allow the existence of cultural diversity, people should live in harmony and equality in the world, people should make concerted efforts to avoid estrangement in different nationalities caused by racial discrimination, the different concepts of different countries.
