An Analysis of Women’s Leadership in Little Women

摘要

路易莎·奥尔科特是美国19世纪杰出的女性作家，她作为一个女权主义者，主要关注女性的相关问题。《小妇人》是她最有名的小说，是一部自传体小说，描写了马奇家四个性格迥异的女儿的成长过程。它反映了在美国南北之战时的女权主义的发展，乔.马奇是书中核心人物，她挑战了传统对女性的限制。她开辟了一条与传统女性所走过的不同的道路。她也渴望着成为一名成功的作家，从而承担起家庭的重担。她身上凝聚了独特的女性领导力，是她引导其他姐妹一起冲破传统的束缚，使得女性角色在家庭与事业平衡扮演。

本文主要从女性领导力视角对《小妇人》进行解读。本课题由引言，结语及中间的三个章节组成。第一部分简要介绍了作家和作品，第二部分分为三个章节，第一章节，首先介绍了国内外对该作品的研究情况，接着阐述了本文所用的三个理论：女权主义，女性领导力和顿悟。第二章节主要从三个不同的视角分析《小妇人》中人物乔的女性领导力。作为女权主义者的代表，她敢于打破对妇女的传统束缚。在当时父权文化背景下，她对传统定义下的女权主义做出了挑战，但是不可避免的具有其局限性。于是，第三章节分析了女性领导力在当时的局限性。接着，本文最后对本课题做出相关总结。

笔者希望本课题能够引起社会对女性领导力的关注，尤其是重视女性领导力的影响。最后也希望能更多地挖掘出女性的领导潜能。

Abstract

Louisa May Alcott is an excellent American female writer of the 19th century as well as a feminist who focuses on women and their problems. Little Women, her best known novel, is autobiographical novel, describing the growing process of four daughters with different characters in March family. It reflects the development of feminism in the American civil war. Jo March is the core character of Little Women, who challenges the traditional restrictions on women. She opens a different path from that walked by traditional women. She inspires to become a successful writer, who later can bear the burden of the whole family. She embodies the unique female leadership to guide the other sisters to break the traditional constraint and to make female roles balance played in family and career. 

This paper tries to study Little Women from the perspective of women’s leadership. The thesis is composed of introduction, conclusion and other three chapters. The first part briefly introduces the writer and the work. The second part is divided into three chapters. The first chapter is about literature review of Little Women. First of all, it introduces the domestic and foreign research situation of the work, and then it makes literature review from the following aspects: feminism, women’s leadership and bildungsroman. The second chapter is analyzing Jo’s leadership from three different points. As representative of feminist, she bears to break the traditional bondage on women. She makes the challenge to the defined feminism in portrayal life, but inevitably having limitations. Thus, the third chapter is about the limitation of women’s leadership. The last part is conclusion. The purpose of this paper is to appeal society to pay more attention to women’s leadership, especially it’s influence.
