On English to Chinese Translation from the Perspective of Contextual Analysis

摘要

英汉翻译是一种语言、文化以及思想的交流过程。在这个过程中，最重要的就是源语言本身所表达的内涵以及含义，而不是它的表面文字。考虑到英语中一词多义的现象十分常见，因此，我们必须在具体的语境中进行理解，随后根据自己的理解进行表达。综上所诉，我们的理解和表达都受到语境的影响以及限制。正由于这样，用语境分析视角分析才是正确翻译的前提条件和内在要求。

在本论文中，序言部分简单的介绍了当前语言学语境分析理论的研究现状，国内外的专家对于翻译与语境关系的研究成果、我对语言学语境分析理论的认识。第一部分通过一个日常翻译实践过程中的有趣例子引入“语境”的概念，引领思考并且引入语境和语境分析理论概念，并对这两者进行详尽的介绍。第二部分分析语境分析理论对翻译的指导作用和重要性，并就语境分析和翻译之间的联系、语境分析理论在翻译实践过程中的三大功能进行详细探讨。第三部分运用实际翻译过程中的案例，就语境分析理论中的三大分析方法进行深入的探索。在论文的最后总结部分，对语境分析的内容进行总结并得出结论：为了达到理解准确和表达精准达意，我们应当在翻译实践活动中根据具体的语境环境来运用语境分析理论具体分析。

Abstract

English to Chinese translation is a cross-language and cross-cultural communication activity. Since “polysemy” is very common in English, the understandings and expressions depend on different contexts. Contextual analysis is the premise and basis of correct translation. In the process of translation, it is necessary to analyze the linguistic context. Context is closely related to translation. Therefore, it is of great value to study English to Chinese translation from the perspective of contextual analysis. 

In this paper, the preface introduces the present situation of the linguistic contextual analysis theory, the domestic and foreign experts' research on the relationship between translation and context, and my understanding of linguistic context analysis theory. The first part of the thesis brings up its topic of context with an interesting example of the daily translation practice, leads the thinking and introduces the concepts of context and contextual analysis, and introduces the two in detail. The second part of the thesis analyzes the guiding role and importance of contextual analysis theory in translation, and has a discussion in terms of the relationship between context analysis and translation, and the three functions of context analysis theory in translation practice. The third part of the thesis takes advantage of the case of the actual translation and makes exploration based on the three analyzing methods in contextual analysis theory. In the final part of the paper, the content of the contextual analysis is summarized that we should use the contextual analysis theory according to the specific context environment in the translation practice to ensure the correct understanding and precious expression.
