摘要

《雾都孤儿》是英国现实主义作家查尔斯·狄更斯的代表作，讲述了一个孤儿的悲惨命运。本论文从善与恶两个角度出发，对影响孤儿命运较大的人物——费金进行研究。费金是一个充满矛盾的个体，他是毒害儿童的残忍的教唆犯，又是照顾孩子的温情老翁。在英国反犹主义倾向和个人经历的驱使下，费金形成了矛盾的性格。本论文旨在对费金的双重性格及成因进行分析研究，以达到辩证的认识和分析人物的效果，为读者全面系统地鉴赏文学作品中的人物形象提供参考。

Abstract

Oliver Twist is the representative work of Charles John Huffam Dickens, a realistic writer of England. It tells the story about an orphan’s miserable fate. This paper makes an analysis of Fagin from the perspectives of kindness and evil, who deeply affects the orphan’s fate. Fagin is a person full of contradiction, a vicious instigator who harms children and a warm old man who takes care of them. Influenced by the tendency of anti-semitism and personal experience, Fagin owns ambivalent character. The paper aims to analyze Fagin’s dual character and its causes in order to make a dialectical understanding of human image and help the readers to get comprehensive and systematic appreciation for figures in literature.
