摘要

《杀死一只知更鸟》是美国著名作家哈珀·李在1957年发表的唯一的长篇小说，也是美国文学经典之一。在这篇小说里，作者巧妙地借助了知更鸟的象征意义充分地阑述了美国南方小镇的一系列故事。本文试图解读《杀死一只知更鸟》中知更鸟的象征意义，分析不同人物的知更鸟形象：他们善良无辜，但却受到无情地毁灭和迫害。通过不同知更鸟悲剧的分析帮助读者了解了20世纪60年代中期美国黑人悲惨生活，有力地抨击了白人社会奉行的种族歧视，同时揭示了人类道德本性中的善与恶，以及教育问题。

Abstract

To Kill a Mockingbird, one of American literary classics, is the only novel by the famous American writer, Harper Lee in 1957. Harper Lee tells a series of stories at a small southern town in America by skillfully using symbolic meaning of mockingbirds. This thesis tries to interpret symbolic meaning of mockingbirds and analyze different characters with symbolic meaning of mockingbirds: They are good and innocent people who are relentlessly destroyed and persecuted. The analysis of different miserable life of characters with symbolic meaning of mockingbird helps readers understand miserable life of the black people and criticize the racial discrimination in the south of America in the middle of 1960s. And this thesis also explores goodness and evil in the moral nature of human beings and educational problems.
