摘要

 《无名的裘德》是哈代的最后一部小说，以悲怆的笔调叙述了女主人公淑的悲剧。本论文着重研究了淑的悲剧成因。论文介绍了维多利亚时期的社会背景，包括维多利亚时期的道德观、教育观和女性意识。论文基于淑的悲剧性格，探讨了造成她悲剧命运的矛盾冲突，以及这些冲突所引发的后果，并详细分析了导致淑的悲剧的因素。这些因素包括环境的制约、宗教的束缚、家庭的影响、个人性格的缺陷和作者自身的因素等五个方面，集中体现了世俗与僵化的宗教对女性的束缚以及传统观念与新女性意识的冲突。

Abstract

Jude the Obscure is Hardy’s last novel and it describes the heroine Sue’s tragedy with grief writing style. This thesis focuses on the causes of the tragic ending in Sue, and it introduces the social background in Victorian period, including Victorian morality, Victorian education and Victorian women. Based on Sue’s tragic character, this thesis discusses the tragic confliction which causes her tragic fate and the consequence caused by this confliction, and makes a detailed analysis of the elements that result in the Sue’s tragedy from such five aspects as environmental restriction, religious confinement, family influence, character flaws and the writer’s factors. All these reflect the restraint of secular and rigid religions against women and the conflict between traditional concepts and new women consciousness.
