Subversion of Lesbians’ Identity Other——An Analysis on Tipping the Velvet from the Perspective of Feminism

摘要

本文通过女性主义核心思想研究《轻舔丝绒》中女同性恋的“他者”身份和这种身份被改变的原因及方式，分析三种不同类型的人在这一过程中扮演了怎样的角色，寻求一种可能的方式帮助女同性恋群体走出压迫与困境。论文首先理清了女性主义与“他者”身份、同性恋权利之间的关系，继而联系文本选取出对主人公南茜的“他者”身份影响最大的三类角色——以南茜为代表的反抗者、以凯蒂为代表的被迫中立者和享有父权社会特权的压迫者。通过对这三类角色的分析，证明男性的主导地位和对女同性恋的排挤，分析这些角色通过何种方式改变这一现状并最终实现和谐共处。最后论文总结上述研究结果，认为唯有通过持之以恒的反抗和斗争促使男性正视并接受女同性恋群体，才能够从根本上改变该群体被边缘化的局面。

Abstract

This paper researches on the subversion of the identity Other of lesbians in Tipping the Velvet by applying the core of feminism. Through the analysis of three different types of people, a feasible way for lesbians to walk out the plight is supposed to be figured out. The study begins with the relationship among feminism, Other and lesbian rights. Then three kinds of roles with the most significant influence on the protagonist Nancy’s “other” identity are chosen to be analyzed: resisters who are like Nancy the protagonist, passive neutrals represented by Kitty, and suppressors who have the priority given by patriarchy. Through the analysis of these three types of characters, textual evidences of male-dominance and lesbian alienation are found. After that, the paper analyzes the methods the characters have taken to change the situation and coexist in harmony, and therefore concludes that only by compelling male to recognize and accept lesbians with constant struggles can lesbians change their marginalized state.
