A Study of  “Aphasia” in The Bonesetter's Daughter

摘要

谭恩美是美国华裔作家的代表人物,《接骨师之女》是她的第四部著作。该小说分别以露丝和茹玲的自述的口吻,讲述了一个家庭三代女性截然不同的故事和命运。无论是生长在旧中国，还是生在旧中国又移民去了美国，亦或是出生并成长在美国，虽然她们的生活经历不尽相同,但她们都处在各种失语的困境中；由于她们各自不同的成长环境和教育背景，她们在面对这些苦难时也有不同的表现，但是都没有完全因为苦难而放弃斗争。本论文将从后殖民主义和女性主义的角度研究三代人不同的失语问题，揭露旧中国女性所承受的半殖民地半封建社会父权制度的残酷摧残，分析美国华裔女性在美国所受的男权社会和白人霸权文化的双重压迫，探讨她们为保护女性权利所做的抗争，为自我解放和自我实现所做的探寻和努力。

Abstract

Amy Tan is a representative of the Chinese-American writers. The Bonesetter’s Daughter is her fourth book. The novel describes the story and fate of three generations of four women in a family through the voice of Lucy and Ruling. Whether living in old China, born in old China and then immigrating to America or born and reared in America, with their different living experiences, they all suffer from aphasia problems in one way or another. When they face the aphasia problems, all of their performances in their sufferings are not the same, because they have different growing environments and cultural backgrounds. However, they do not completely give up their fight against the sufferings. This paper will discuss the aphasia problems from the perspective of post colonialism and feminism, exploring the oppression inflicted on the traditional Chinese women by the patriarchy in the semi-colonial and semi-feudal society of old China, examining the Chinese-American women who suffer from the double oppression from the patriarchal society and the whites hegemonic culture in the United States. This paper will also observe their great struggles to revolt against the unfair treatment, to claim women’s voice rights and to seek female’s self-liberation and self-realization.
