摘要

《无声告白》是华裔作家伍绮诗耗时六年写的关于一个普通华裔家庭悲剧的长篇小说。这本书的封面这样写着：“我们终此一生，就是要摆脱他人的期待，找到真正的自己。”表明本书的主旨就是关于如何摆脱他人的期待而找到自我。令人欣慰的是莉迪亚的家人没有错失她用死亡传递的呼唤，走出了各自的小世界，学会了坦诚言说自我，学会了专注倾听他人，找到了真正的自己。本文将通过三个方面家庭、社会和学校来分析找到真正的自己的含义，并且分析了迷失自己的后果。最后得到找到真正的自己需要明白自己内心真正的渴望、保持乐观的态度和开朗的心态、不要被错误的表象所迷惑以及不要依赖他人的结论。

Abstract

Everything I Never Told You is a tragic novel the writing of which took the Chinese-American writer Celeste NG six years. The novel tells the story of a Chinese American family living in 1970s small-town Ohio. On the cover of the book readers can find the words: "We should get rid of the expectations of others, find and live ourselves during our lifetime." Thankfully, the heroine of the novel, Lydia’s family did not miss the call, and they went out of their own small world, trying to learn to speak frankly and listen to others attentively, and finally found and lived themselves. This thesis presents an analysis of the novel by examining the following three aspects: the family, the society and the school, with a view to finding the true meaning of “find and live yourself” and explaining the consequences of losing oneself. The conclusion reached after the analysis is that we should perceive the real desires of ourselves and maintain an optimistic attitude and an open mind. Meanwhile we should avoid being misled by false appearance and relying on others for life.
