An Analysis of the Verbal Humor in Situation Comedy Two Broke Girls from the Perspective of Politeness Principle

摘要

上个世纪20年代,情景喜剧这一影视形式在英国广播公司电视频道首次出现。自此它以蓬勃的姿态发展到今天，依旧在影视领域占领着重要地位,美剧《破产姐妹》就是其中之一。关于英语情景喜剧的研究也随之发展起来，为与之相关的领域增添了一个可探究的课题。本文选取语用学中的礼貌原则，从它的六个方面分别分析了《破产姐妹》中的语言幽默。在结构上，首先介绍分析所依靠的理论，然后用这一理论对该剧中的幽默言语进行对比研究，最终得出结论。本文旨在希望通过这种语言学上的对比角度使读者对幽默有更深的理解，并帮助读者在语言学理论的指导下科学观影。

Abstract

It was in the 1920s when situation comedy appeared on BBC broadcast station for the first time as a new television form. Since then, it develops itself in a thriving way until today, and occupies a very important position in the film and television field. Two Broke Girls is one of them. As it develops, the study of situation comedy grows up as well, and it offers a new topic for research in related fields. This paper is based on Politeness Principle in pragmatics to analyze how six maxims are presented in the conversations of Two Broke Girls. It first introduces the theory which the paper will rely on, and then analyzes the humorous elements of this play under the guidance of these theories; next it conducts a detailed study of the humorous dialogues; finally, it comes into a conclusion. This paper aims to offer a better understanding of humor through this comparative point of view on linguistic aspect for readers, and helping them enjoy the English humor in the situation comedy under the guidance of linguistic theories.
