摘要

《占卜者》发表于1974年,是玛格丽特•劳伦斯一系列作品中文本最长、结构最严谨的一部书。本文试从女性成长角度美国华裔女作家汤亭亭(1940-)在1980年出版的小说《中国佬》，自出版以来，就受到了广泛关注，获得了1981年美国全国图书奖和普利策文学奖提名。这部作品以早期华人来美艰辛的创业故事为背景，描写了美国社会边缘的华裔工人所遭受的美国主流文化的歧视和排挤，最后通过不断的实际行动，在沉默中谱写美国历史，同时表现了作者作为边缘作家强烈的使命感和责任感。本文主要以汤亭亭本人作为美国华裔作家的独特文化身份意识为基础，重现《中国佬》中被美国主流社会遗忘的几代不同的华裔主人公在美国艰辛的奋斗史，重点分析华裔们不同文化身份重建的过程和态度，从而升华本论文的主题意义—重塑华裔英雄史诗，构建真正的华裔独特身份。
