Independent Space of Sisterhood in Snow Flower and the Secret Fan 

摘要

通常姐妹情谊被理解为共同受压迫下的地位低下的妇女建立起来的一种互相关怀与扶持的关系。在小说《雪花与秘扇》中雪花与百合延续了一生的专一的姐妹情谊就是存在于一个把男性社会摒弃在外的独立空间里的，它就是“女书”世界。小说情节围绕百合和雪花展开，她们用于交流的重要渠道便是写在扇面上的女书。女书是世界上唯一的女性专属文字，也是这个封闭的“女儿国”中的隐秘文化。隐秘而又封闭的女书文化见证和传递了她们的姐妹情谊。 

本文着重对小说中神秘有古老的中国文化“女书”与“老同”做出细致解读，重点分析小说中“老同”与“女书”的关系，从而揭示女书文字的排他性与私密性等特质为老同之间的姐妹情谊提供了私密的独立空间。同时，被当时主流社会所认同的女书文化为男权压迫下的女性提供了独有的话语权，也为老同之间的内心情感交流提供了安全而可靠的独立空间。

Abstract

Sisterhood is usually regarded as a closed relationship established by low-level women for mutual support and mutual concern. In Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, the exclusive and life-long sisterhood between Snow Flower and Lily existed in an independent space, which is Nv Shu world isolated from male society. This novel was launching around the sisterhood between Lily and Snow Flower. The women’s writing on fan was a very important method of communication, which was the world’s unique female language, and also the secret culture of the closed female independent space. This secret women’s writing witnessed and transmitted their unique sisterhood. 

This paper focuses on detailed interpretation of ancient Chinese culture Nv Shu and Old Same, mainly analyzes the relationship between Old Same and Nv Shu and reveals the exclusiveness and privacy of Nv Shu character which provided independent and secret space for sisterhood between Old Same. Meanwhile, Nv Shu which was recognized by the mainstream society also provided discourse power for women who were oppressed by patriarchy and reliable independent space for emotional exchange between the Old Same.
