摘要

《献给艾米丽的玫瑰》描述了艾米丽小姐充满悲剧的一生，小说以美国战后南方社会变迁为背景，向读者展示了作为最后一代贵族后裔的艾米丽一步步走向毁灭。艾米丽承受了当时的社会背景以及他自身的身份给她带来的痛苦，忍受了父亲对她生活的控制，以及由于种种因素而使她性格产生了缺陷，最终在离群索居中度过了悲惨的一生。本文主要从多重角度分析了艾米丽的悲剧原因。包括：艾米丽扭曲的性格和福克纳的南方情结，父系社会下亲情的枷锁和爱情的背叛，以及社会的巨大变革和时代背景下南北方的矛盾冲突等几个方面思考。她的悲剧恰恰反映了社会的悲剧。艾米丽作为传统象征，是新价值观和传统价值观下的牺牲品。

Abstract

A Rose for Emily, set in social change of southern America, describes the tragic fate of Emily Grierson, an aristocratic descent. Emily suffered from the pain which society and her identity brought to her. She was controlled by her father, which made defects in her character. Emily finally went through her life by living in solitude. This dissertation will analyze Emily’s tragedy from the conflicts of the south and north to the sharp social change in that area, from the control of her father to the betrayal of her lover, from the Emily’s distorted personality to the Faulkner’s localism. Emily’s miserable fate represents the tragedy of the whole society. As a symbol of tradition, Emily is the victim suffering from the conflicts between the new value and traditional value.
