A Study of English Idiom Translation In Light of Foreignization and Domestication

摘要

英语习语在文化交流中扮演着一个重要的角色。然而由于中西方人们不同的文化背景，给英语习语的理解带来了许多的困难。因此，为了促进跨文化交际，准确的进行英语习语的翻译是十分有意义的。虽然已经有了许多关于习语翻译策略的研究，但很少有人从归化和异化这两个角度来对习语翻译进行研究。本篇文章将从异化和归化两个角度来谈论英语习语的翻译以及分析如何在翻译过程中灵活运用这两种策略。

Abstract

English idiom plays an important role in culture exchange. However, for the British and the Chinese, different cultures give a rise to many difficulties in idioms understanding. Therefore, in order to boost intercultural communication, the accurate translation of English idioms is of great significance. A great deal of research on the strategies for translating idioms has come into existence. But few research papers focus on idiom translation from the perspective of foreignization and domestication. This thesis is intended to explore English idiom translation by means of employing foreignization and domestication and analyze how to flexibly apply these two strategies in the process of idiom translation.
