Similarities and Differences between Chinese and Western Wedding Customs

摘要

结婚是人生新的开始,是人一生中的重要里程碑,在人的一生中具有不可替代的位置。而婚礼作为一种结婚礼仪形式,跟文化传统密不可分。不同的国家、地区、民族,其婚礼形式也千差万别,各自表现出不同的文化内涵。

但随着社会经济的全球化以及国与国之间的文化交流日益频繁，中国逐渐被世界所了解的同时也经受着外来文化的冲击，这之中就包括中西方婚俗之间的相互影响。为了更好地让人们了解中西方婚俗文化的异同点，本文通过对中西方婚礼前后、婚礼仪式以及中西方婚俗所反映的文化因素等进行了比较研究，探讨不同婚俗所反映的中西方文化异同。同时也提醒人们在全球化的大背景下婚俗也不可避免的会发生一些变化，但我们应当固守我国传统婚俗文化中的精髓，正确对待文化冲击，传承自身的传统文化。

Abstract

Marriage is a fresh start of the life. It is one of the milestones during the whole life, and nothing can replace it. As a form of marriage, wedding is close to culture. Different countries, regions and nations have their own wedding customs that reflect their different cultural connotation. 

With the social and economic globalization and the increasingly cultural exchange between countries, China is becoming well understood by the world gradually while at the same time suffering the shock of foreign cultures. Wedding customs is one part of it. In order to help people know more about similarities and differences between Chinese and Western wedding customs, this paper will study similarities and differences between Chinese and Western culture reflected by different wedding customs, based on study customs before, during, after wedding ceremony and cultural elements reflected by wedding customs. It also remind people that it is inevitable that wedding customs will have some changes in the background of globalization, but we should reserve our cultural quintessence, deal with cultural shock correctly and inherit our own culture.
