A Study of Hosseini’s A Thousand Splendid Suns from the Perspective of Eco-feminism

摘要

美籍阿富汗作家卡勒德·胡塞尼的第二本小说《灿烂千阳》，获得了评论界的一致好评，这使胡塞尼由最初的新人作家迅速成为一名众所周知的作家。在这部作品中，胡塞尼将阿富汗战乱作为背景，生动地描述了在阿富汗父权制压迫下奋力挣扎的女性以及饱受摧残的自然环境。

胡塞尼的作品《灿烂千阳》自问世以来就备受文学界的关注，学者们主要从创伤理论、成长小说视角、女性主义等角度来探究该作品。本论文主要运用生态女性主义理论对小说进行剖析，分析其中体现出来的自然和女性的密切关系，进一步揭露父权统治对自然和女性的共同压迫，最后揭示受压迫者对压迫者的极大反抗，从而探求女性获得解放与自由的必然途径。

本文从生态女性主义视角解析了小说中的两位女性形象，有助于读者更好地欣赏这部作品，倡导关注女性权益，构建和谐发展观。同时也希望本篇论文可以引起更多学生和研究者的兴趣，对这部作品做进一步的研究。

Abstract

A Thousand Splendid Suns, the second novel of Afghan-born American novelist Khaled Hosseini, gains unanimous praise among critics. It makes Hosseini become a widely recognized writer rather than a newcomer. In this novel, Hosseini vividly depicts the struggling Afghan women and nature under the oppression of the patriarchal system in the background of continuous wars.

A Thousand Splendid Suns has aroused much attention since it was published. The scholars mainly explore this novel from the view of trauma theory, initiation story, feminism and so on. This thesis attempts to study this novel from the perspective of ecofeminism. Firstly, it analyzes the close relationship between nature and women; Secondly, it reveals the common oppression of patriarchal domination over nature and women; Finally, it exposes the females’ resistance to males and seeks effective ways to liberate women.

This thesis analyzes the two female images from the perspective of ecofeminism, which helps readers to appreciate this novel better. It pays attention to women’s rights and interests, and advocates the concept of harmonious development. Meanwhile, it is expected that this thesis can lead to more students and researchers interested in this novel to do further research.
