An Analysis of E-C Subtitle Translation of La La Land from the Perspective of Functional Equivalence Theory_英语论文

摘要

字幕指以文字形式显示影视作品里面的对话等非影像内容,是为了帮助观众听懂台词而配合放映的文字,影视作品是促进文化交流的重要媒介之一,能够准确理解影视作品中所传达的思想,将会更深入了解跨文化思想并从中受益,而字幕翻译则是完成这一过程的重要手段。为了达到传播文化思想的目的,电影字幕起着重要作用。本文通过分析美国电影《爱乐之城》的字幕译例,在尤金·奈达的功能对等理论指导下,研究功能对等理论在电影字幕翻译中的有效应用,及如何使目的语的受众能像原语观众一样感受到该电影传达的思想,从而探索英语字幕翻译的技巧。

Abstract

Subtitles refer to the non-video content such as the dialogue of the films and TV series in the form of text, which are the words that are shown to help audience understand the lines. Films and TV series are one of the important media for promoting cultural exchange. It will be able to accurately understand the thoughts conveyed in films and TV series, which will be more deeply understood and beneficial to cross-cultural thoughts, and subtitle translation is an important means of completing this process. In order to achieve the purpose of spreading cultural thoughts, film subtitles play an important role. By analyzing the English-Chinese translation of the subtitle of La La Land based on functional equivalence theory from Eugene Nida, this paper studies the applying of functional equivalence theory in the subtitle translation of the film and how this theory makes the target language audiences feel the thoughts conveyed by the film just like the source language audiences to explore the techniques of English subtitle translation.
