The Application of Domestication and Foreignization Strategy in Movie Subtitle Translation of Coco_英语论文

摘要

随着生活的富足和科学技术的发展，人们对丰富多彩的精神世界的需求日益提高。电影作为世界文化传播和交流的一种形式，成为人们喜闻乐见的一种娱乐形式，而在其中架起文化交流桥梁的就是电影字幕翻译，它横跨于两种不同的文化之间，在交流中扮演着重要的角色。外国的影片扎根外来文化的土壤，电影台词和文化内涵都与中国本土语言表达习惯和文化有所出入，一定程度上影响观众对电影情节的理解。但同时外国文化一些“新”的东西对本国观众来说又可以开阔眼界、学习新知识，因此，在电影字幕翻译上，如何选择归化和异化的翻译策略就显得极其重要。

本文从这两个翻译策略出发，使用归化和异化理论与实践相结合的方式对个案进行研究，通过一些典型译例分析电影《寻梦环游记》的字幕翻译，试图就影视字幕翻译的特点以及归化和异化翻译策略在电影字幕中的应用进行探讨，从而提出在翻译中归化和异化翻译策略的结合使用可使电影字幕翻译质量提高，实现更好的翻译效果的建议，并且希望加深读者对电影字幕翻译的理解。

Abstract

With the prosperity of human life and the progress of science and technology, the demand for a varied spiritual life is growing. And movie, a form of cultural exchanges and communication, is adopted by the public. Within the process of cultural exchanges, subtitle translation is like a bridge stretching across two different languages, playing a significant role in communicating. Foreign films are rooted in the soil of foreign cultures, and consequently, some expressions and cultural connotations are not familiar to the Chinese audience, which has a great impact on the understanding of the movie plots. At the same time, however, people can broaden their horizon and know more about foreign cultures when being exposed to an unfamiliar context. Therefore, it is vital to choose domestication and foreignization strategies in translating movie subtitle.

This thesis attempts to analyze subtitle translation by combining the theory of domestication and foreignization strategies with practice, taking examples from the movie Coco as a case study. With discussing the characteristics of subtitle translation and the application of domestication and foreignization strategies in subtitle translation, the suggestion about combining the domestication and foreignization strategies while translating movie subtitle and achieving better translation effect, as well as helping readers to develop a deeper understanding of film subtitle translation is provided in this thesis.
