摘要

《有抱负的来客》是纳撒尼尔·霍桑的一篇小说，讲述了几位主人公各自的抱负追求。小说取材于美国新英格兰地区的一个神奇传说，想象丰富，描写细致。本文从荣格分析心理学的角度，解剖小说中来客怀有“死后希望被铭记”的抱负的心理原因，以及父亲和祖母两代人听闻来客的抱负后的表现，从而揭示当代人受社会环境等因素的影响希望有所作为的心理原因。从荣格分析心理学的角度，对《有抱负的来客》中来客，父亲以及祖母三人的人物形象展开心理学层面的解读，有助于理解霍桑对于“抱负”所持有的态度，进而展开人们对“建筑理想，追求理想”这个行为的思考。荣格分析心理学的全部目的在于整合健全的人格，对本小说中的人物形象进行研究，有助反观当代人在时代背景下追求理想，实现抱负的行为，从而认识并健全个人人格。

Abstract

Based on a magical legend in New England, "The Ambitious Guest" is a short story by Nathaniel Hawthorne about the theme of lost ambition which presents enjoyable reading experience with powerful imagination and meticulous description. From the perspective of Jung's analytical psychology, this thesis attempts to analyze the psychology of the ambitious guest who want to be remembered after death, and the reaction of the father and the grandmother after hearing of the guest's ambition, thus explores the reason why everyone influenced by the social environment and other factors intends to be somebody. Further, the analysis of the images of the ambitious guest, the father and the grandmother try to understand Hawthorne's attitude towards "ambition" and then reveal the meaning of the ambition in dreaming and achieving. The whole purpose of Jung's analytical psychology is to integrate the sound personality. Therefore to study the images of characters in this novel aims to look back at the behavior of striving to dream so as to realize and to complete the individual personality of our own.
