摘要

塞缪尔·泰勒·柯尔律治(1772-1834)是英国文艺批评家，湖畔派代表，是英国浪漫主义文学的奠基人之一。《古舟子咏》柯勒律治最著名的传世之作，是以中世纪歌谣体写成的一首叙事长诗，收于1798年版的《抒情歌谣集》。诗中，一位老水手讲述了他在行船中偶然射杀一只信天翁，招致他和全船人受到严厉惩罚，最终通过自我救赎绝处逢生的故事。

本文从生态角度解读该作品，尝试对诗中主要意象所体现的“罪与罚”的象征意义进行分析。本文基于象征主义，通过分析老水手、年轻水手及信天翁的象征意义，进而分析其中“罪与罚”主题所蕴含的生态关切。本文通过对“罪与罚”所折射的生态意蕴的挖掘，旨在丰富对塞缪尔·泰勒·柯勒律治及其诗作的理解，从而引发对人与自然关系的再思考。

Abstract

Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834) is a British literary critic, a representative of the Lake poet, and one of the founders of British Romantic Literature. The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is Coleridge’s masterpiece. It is a long narrative poem written in the form of medieval ballads, which was written in 1798 edition of Lyric Ballads. In the poem, an old sailor tells the story of his accidental shooting of an albatross in a sailing boat, which resulted in severe punishment for him and the whole crew, and ultimately saved himself from extinction.

This thesis interprets the work from the perspective of ecology and tries to make a detailed analysis of the "crime and punishment" embodied in the images in the poem. Based on symbolism, this paper analyses the symbolic meanings of the ancient mariner, the young mariners and the albatross, and then analyses the ecological concerns contained in the theme of "crime and punishment". Hopefully, it can enrich the research on Samuel Taylor Coleridge and offer an insight to “crime and punishment”. Therefore, it further readers’ understanding on this poem and arouses reader’s concern on the relationship between human and the nature.
