摘要

乔治·艾略特是维多利亚时期著名的女性作家，一百多年来一直颇受争议。《弗洛斯河上的磨坊》是她的半自传体小说，很多情节都来自于她真实的生活经历。本文试图通过乔治·艾略特对于女主人公玛吉的态度来分析其独特的女性观。研究发现：乔治·艾略特的女性观具有双重性。一方面，她提倡女性应当坚定地追求经济和精神的独立以及爱情；另一方面，她强调女性应以家庭为本，鼓励他们通过自我牺牲以构建和谐家庭、和谐社会。作者本人的生活经历、人道主义宗教思想以及当时的社会背景导致了她双重女性观的形成。
