An Analysis of the Interpersonal Meaning of Animal Farm from the Perspective of Systemic Functional Grammar_英语论文

摘要

《动物农庄》是英国著名作家乔治奥威尔撰写的政治讽刺小说,小说通过轻松诙谐的语言对当时的政治环境进行讽刺。小说背景设置在英国的一个本来由人管理的农场,后来动物通过革命手段把农场原来的管理者——人驱逐出去,并且由三只猪成为新的农场管理者。当动物们以为三只猪成为管理者之后他们就能过上新的生活的时候,不料三只猪,特别是名叫拿破仑的猪却在重蹈人类的覆辙,把看上去一片光明的农庄重新变回动物们受压迫,受劳役的深渊。论文以《动物农庄》原著作为素材,分析小说语言的人际意义,从新的角度认识,分析奥威尔的这篇经典之作。本文将运用韩礼德的系统功能语法理论从语气，情态，引语等方面对语篇进行话语分析,旨在揭示政治讽刺小说体现的人际意义,探讨如何通过不同话语手段的运用实现政治讽刺目的并且更好地传达语篇的人际意义。

Abstract

Animal Farm is a political satire novel written by famous British writer George Orwell. The novel satirizes the political environment at that time through humorous language. The background of the novel was set up in a farm originally managed by man in England. Later, animals were expelled from the original manager of the farm by means of revolution, and three pigs became new farm managers. When animals think that three pigs become managers, they can lead a new life. Unexpectedly, three pigs, especially the pigs named Napoleon, are following the same mistakes of mankind. They turn the seemingly bright farm back into the abyss of animal oppression and labor. Based on the original works of Animal Farm, this paper analyses the interpersonal meaning of the language of the novel, and from a new perspective, analyzes Orwell's classic work. This paper will use Halliday's systemic functional grammar theory to analyze discourse mood, modality and quotation in order to reveal the interpersonal meaning embodied in political satire fiction, and explore how to achieve the purpose of political satire through the use of different discourse means and better convey the interpersonal meaning of the text.
