On the Themes of Lawrence’s Ticket, Please from the Perspective of Symbolism_英语论文
摘要
劳伦斯是20世纪英国文学最重要的作家之一,也是西方文学史上最具争议的作家之一。劳伦斯因其优秀的长篇小说《儿子与情人》、《查特来夫人的情人》而闻名。《请买票》是劳伦斯短篇小说集《英格兰,我的英格兰》的其中一篇小说,主要描述了托马斯和安妮恋情的发展以及他们之间的冲突和斗争。
本文通过研究《请买票》中的文本内容和分析具体景象的象征意义,突出两性关系的失衡、人与自然的冲突以及人类欲望的克制与发泄的主题。本研究不仅有利于深入了解主题,还有助于进一步了解劳伦斯的思想以及其对造成异化和压抑人性的现代工业文明的深刻批判。本文对如何应对欲望进行了更加深入的思索,从而帮助我们实现对现实生活的反思。

Abstract
Lawrence is one of the most important writers of British literature in the 20th century and one of the most controversial writers in the history of Western literature. Lawrence is known for his excellent novels such as Son and Lovers and Lady Chatterle’s Lover. Ticket, Please is one of short stories in Lawrence’s short story collection England, My England and it focuses on the development of Thomas and Annie’s relationship, as well as their conflicts and struggles.
By studying the context of Tickets, Please and analyzing the symbolic elements and themes, this thesis highlights the imbalance in gender relationship, the conflicts between man and nature, restraint and venting of human desires. Moreover, this study not only contributes to deeper interpretation of themes, but also a better understanding of Lawrence’s thoughts and Lawrence’s severe criticism on modern industrial civilization that causing alienation and suppression of human nature. It also probes more profoundly on how to deal with desires, so as to help us rethink of real life.
