Abstract
Runaway is a collection of short stories written by Canadian female writer Alice Munro, which contains eight works in total. As a female writer, Munro expresses her profound thinking on the fate of women in her works. This paper mainly discusses the first novel of the same name, Runaway. In the novel, Munro, with a multi-dimensional perspective and a crisscrotting narrative technique, profoundly presents the struggle and predicament of the heroine’s inner world, as well as her escape and return after all kinds of hesitation, and reveals the endurance and strength of women’s kind-hearted and sensitive nature. Munro’s sword is directed at patriarchy and anthropocentrism, attacking men’s oppression of women.
Basing on the framework of feminism, this paper aims to reveal the profound feminism thought in the short story Runaway by analyzing the conflicts between women and society, men, and the “self”.
