An Analysis of Subtitle Translation from the Perspective of Functional Equivalence Theory_英语论文

摘要

随着信息技术和互联网技术的发展，以及中西文化交流的进一步加深，中国引进了越来越多的的外国电影和电视剧。其中，情景喜剧就是最受欢迎的外来影视剧类型之一，情景喜剧中又以美国的情景喜剧最受观众喜爱。近几年来《生活大爆炸》一直是全美收视率最高的情景喜剧，在全球范围内声名远扬，深受中国人民喜爱。外国影视剧在中国的快速发展使得字幕翻译变得越来越重要。

本文是一项定性研究，将采用理论演绎和译例分析相结合的研究方法。根据尤金▪奈达提出的衡量翻译的标准，我们把译文翻译的标准定为读者对译文产生的反应，通过比较源语读者的反应与目的语读者的反应，判断译文是否得当。译文必须在通顺流畅、简洁易懂，准确表达出源语的意思，使目的语读者能够以源语读者理解原文的方式来解释译文，好的译文会使目的语的读者与源语读者反应相似。本文将从功能对等论的研究视角探讨：1）在《生活大爆炸》人人视频字幕组字幕翻译中，如何创造出自然又贴近目的语的翻译，使目的语读者能以源语读者理解原文的方式来解释译文，在传达出源语本身含义的同时，最大限度展现中国本土文化特色和本土时下流行元素。2）在不能同时传达原文原意和展现源语文化背景的情况下，为了实现传达原文语义和反应源语文化特色的目的，如何在翻译中改变原文的形式从而实现功能对等。3）如果形式上的改变仍无法传达源语文化和原文语义，如何通过创造和归化来巧妙解决翻译中因文化差异导致的问题，从而实现源语和目的语达到语义上的对等的目的。

Abstract

With the rapid development of information technology and the Internet, and the deepening cultural communication between China and the western countries, more and more foreign movies and TV series have been imported into China. The Big Bang Theory is one kind of comedy focus on a set of characters who carry over from episode to episode. The Big Bang Theory is an American television sitcom, which is a big success both at home and abroad. The booming of foreign TV series has made subtitle translation more and more important, as it is a key auxiliary tool for understanding these TV programs.  

This thesis is a qualitative study that analyses the subtitle translation of with case analysis, and based on Eugene A. Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory, explores how translators compromised the fidelity to the lexical details and grammatical structure of the original language, and employed a more natural rendering but with less literal accuracy. Based on Eugene A. Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory, taking as a case to study the subtitle translation of, the author analyzes whether the translation of this case has been successfully performed by the translator and the translation conformed to the corresponding meaning in source language.
