An Analysis of C-E Translation of Names of Chinese Dishes from the Perspective of Skopos Theory_英语论文

摘要

中国菜,是中国各地区、各民族的各种菜肴的总称,也是世界三大菜系之一。其主要包含八大分支菜系和其他细分的菜系若干。中国菜的命名方式多种多样而又十分复杂,菜名中往往包括多种元素,如味道、烹饪方式、主要食材、调料、人名、地名、典故、寓意、修辞、颜色和造型等等;另外,中国菜名的组成结构也颇为繁杂。因为中国菜名具有上述特点,所以其翻译亦具有复杂性与特殊性。本文从目的论的角度,尝试将一些中国菜名翻译为英译名,并对一些已有的中国菜的英译文本进行分析与评论,对不同特点的菜名进行归类。文章针对各个类别的菜名,在目的论的翻译原则的指导之下,探索并提炼出相对应的翻译方法,对中国菜名的英译有一定的指导意义。

Abstract

Chinese dish is the general name for all kinds of dishes from all regions and ethnic groups in China, and is one of the three major dishes in the world. It mainly consists of eight major cuisines and other subdivisions. The naming of Chinese dishes is varied and complex. The names of dishes often include various components such as tastes, cooking methods, ingredients, spices, geographic names, names of specific people, allusions, implied meanings, trope, colors and shapes. In addition, the composition of Chinese dishes’ names is quite complicated. Because Chinese dishes’ names have the above characteristics, translating them into English is a hard work. From the perspective of skopos theory, this thesis attempts to translate some Chinese dishes’ names into English, analyzes and comments on some existing English translations of Chinese dishes, and make a classification of the names of dishes with different characteristics. Moreover, guided by the translation rules of skopos theory, the thesis would explore and extract the corresponding translation methods of different kinds of Chinese dishes’ names, which has guiding significance for translating names of Chinese dishes into English.
