Application of Functional Equivalence Theory in English Translation of Internet Buzzwords_英语论文
摘要
网络作为现代媒体的主要载体,互联网流行语在外交中将更具影响力。如何将这些流行语准确地翻译成真正的英语的议题,具有非常重要的理论和实践意义。这不仅有助于国内网络流行文化的外流,同时也有助于更好地展示中国的经济和文化发展以及人民的精神面貌。
本文将从功能对等理论的翻译视角,对汉语网络流行语的英译进行研究。功能对等理论是由着名的美国翻译理论家尤金·奈达提出的。他认为信息的受体和受体的语言应该与受体在源语言中的方式大致相同。从这一点来看,功能等同性强调了翻译产物中受体的反应是相对的,在形式上不是等同的,而在效果上是等同的。
作者将奈达的功能对等翻译理论作为本文的理论框架,贯穿全文。通过列举大量例子和具体分析,总结出一些较为可行且广泛适用的翻译策略。同时也提出建议,译者在不同的翻译目的和翻译情景下,应该根据实际情况选择相对应的翻译策略,以便更好的实现与西方国家间的跨文化交流。

Abstract
Network as the main carrier of modern media, Internet buzzwords will be more influential in foreign exchanges. The issue that how these buzzwords are accurately translated into authentic English has very important theoretical and practical significance. This not only contributes to the export of popular culture in domestic networks, but also helps to better display China's economic and cultural development and the people's spiritual outlook.
This thesis will focus on the English translation of Chinese Internet buzzwords from the perspective of functional equivalence theory. Functional equivalence theory was put forward by the famous American translation theorist E. A. Nida. He held the opinion that the receptors of the message and the receptor’s language should correspond with it in mostly the same manner as the receptors did in the source language. From this point of view, functional equivalence emphasizes that the responses of the receptors in the translation product are relative, not identical in form, and equivalent in effect.
The author applies Nida's functional equivalence translation theory as the theoretical framework of this thesis, and the theory runs through the whole pages. Through a detailed analysis of a large number of examples, some feasible and widely applicable translation strategies are summarized. At the same time, the author also pointed out that under different translation purposes and translation scenarios, the translators should choose the corresponding translation strategies according to the actual situation, in order to better achieve cross-cultural communication with Western countries.
