An Emotional Analysis of The Bet from the Perspective of Transitivity_英语论文

摘要

短篇小说常常通过描绘生活中的某些典型片段，刻画出主要人物的性格特征，以此来反映生活，反映当代社会的某些现象或状态等。同时，对短篇小说的阅读、分析与探讨也是不同层次的学生都可能会经历的。目前，系统功能语法理论经过阶段性的发展已经成为一个成熟的理论和语篇分析的一种有利工具。本文将运用韩礼德的系统功能语法理论中经验功能之及物性理论来深入挖掘和分析短篇小说《打赌》中的人物情感，以此来帮助读者阅读并提升他们的理解。及物性从六大过程（即物质过程、心理过程、关系过程、言语过程、行为过程和存在过程）来对小句进行分析，为文本研究提供了不同视角和有效路径。本文旨在揭示小说《打赌》中所蕴含的经验功能，通过短篇小说与及物性理论的结合分析，探讨不同的过程选择如何推动小说情节的发展与促进其情感的体现。

Abstract

Usually, short stories use some typical episodes in life and describes main characters to reflect life and also certain phenomena or states in contemporary society. Also, students at different levels will perhaps experience the reading, analysis and discussion of short stories. At present, the theory of Systemic Functional Grammar has gone through stage development and become a mature theory, a favorable tool for discourse analysis. In the present thesis, transitivity theory of experiential metafunction in Halliday's Systemic Functional Grammar will be used to deeply excavate and analyze the character’s emotions in the short story The Bet, thus assisting readers’ reading and enhancing their understanding. Transitivity analyzes clauses from six processes (i.e. material process, mental process, relational process, verbal process, behavioral process and existential process), providing a different angle and an effective approach for text analysis. The thesis aims to reveal the experiential metafunction contained in the short story The Bet. Through the combined analysis of short story and transitivity theory, the thesis discusses how different process choices can promote the development of story plot and push the embodiment of its emotions.
