A Comparative Study on Two Chinese Translations of the First 2016 US Presidential Debate: Based on Three-dimensional Transformation in Eco-translatology_英语论文

Abstract
Drawing on the three-dimensional transformation in Eco-translatology proposed by Professor Hu Gengshen, a comparative study on two Chinese translations of 2016 U.S presidential debate is conducted in this thesis. It aims to analyze the translators’ adaptation to the source language and selection to the target language. Through a study on presidential debate text translation and the case study of the two translated versions of the debate, this thesis compares the degree of holistic adaptation and selection of the two Chinese versions and analyzes how the translators make selective adaptation and adaptive selection in the process of translation. This thesis concludes that a translator is required to decide whether the translation should adapt more on source or target language before translating. During translation, the translator should make selective adaptation and adaptive selection, conducting multi-dimensional transformation on linguistic, cultural and communicative dimension, among which communicative dimension is the core in debate text.
