An Analysis of the Subtitle Translation of Character Documentary in More Than an Athlete Based on Skopostheorie_英语论文

摘要

美国NBA篮球文化的普及和流行吸引了一大批中国观众的眼球，越来越多的篮球爱好者通过观看篮球比赛视频、球星个人纪录片等形式感受NBA带来的精彩与魅力。鉴于中西方语言文化的差异，观众在观看和理解这些影视作品的时候存在一定的困难，因此，在这个过程中字幕翻译扮演着十分重要的角色。

本文选取由美国娱乐与体育电视节目网ESPN出品的大型励志纪录片《不只是一名运动员》中的一些字幕翻译作品为研究范例，运用目的论的翻译原理探讨人物纪录片字幕翻译的特点、翻译策略以及在翻译过程中应该注意的问题。笔者旨在提供一些人物纪录片字幕翻译的意见和建议，为促进电影字幕翻译行业的发展贡献一份力量。

Abstract

The popularity of NBA has attracted the attention of a great number of Chinese audiences. More and more Chinese basketball fans are getting knowledges of NBA by watching basketball game videos and character documentaries. In view of differences in the language and culture between Chinese and Western, viewers have certain difficulties in watching and understanding these film and television works. In this way, the subtitle translation plays a very important role in the process.

This paper, based on a character documentary More Than an Athlete, which produced by ESPN, an American entertainment and sports program network, probes into the characteristics and strategies of subtitle translation of character documentary on the Skopos Theory. In the paper, it offers some suggestions about translating character documentary and helps to promote the development of subtitle translation industry.
