An Analysis of Dimensions from the Perspective of Feminism_英语论文

Abstract
Alice Munro, a famous female writer of Canada, has won the Nobel Price for Literature with the collection of short stories Who Do You Think You Are in 2013. Dimensions is the first story of Munro’s later collection Too Much Happiness. This thesis aims to discuss the process of the awareness of female consciousness of the heroine, Doree, from the perspective of feminism. In social life, most women live under the standards and values which are determined by men, especially women who live in family. They are controlled and oppressed by men in varying degrees, from space to body, and to spirit. Doree has been living under the control and oppression of her husband for a long time, and the process that she searches for self-identification and independence is complex and difficult. The paper is going to interpret this process by means of analyzing how she gets rid of her husband’s control step by step from space to body, then to spirit after going through some significant misfortune such as losing her children and her husband being arrested.
