A Genre Analysis of Public Speech: A Case Study of TED Talks on Technology_英语论文

摘要

演讲作为一种用于信息交流的语言交际活动，在日常生活和工作中的使用越来越广。各领域的专家学者用简短有力的TED演讲，对世界、特别是在科技领域造成了不可估量的影响。本文以Swales和Bhatia的理论框架为基础，收集了TED科技演讲的15篇语音文本，并对其采用体裁分析的方法进行了分析。通过探讨这些演讲背后的交际目的，总结出这些演讲的体裁特征，为公众演讲提供一个新的研究视角同时帮助读者更深层的理解TED科技类演讲。

Abstract

As a kind of language communicative activity for information exchange, public speaking is used more and more frequently in modern society covering a wide variety of different topics. TED talks, usually in the form of short and powerful speeches from experts from different disciplines, have exerted immeasurable influence on the world, especially in the field of science and technology. Based on the theoretical framework of Swales and Bhatia, 15 speech texts of TED talks on technology were collected and anlyzed with a genre analysis approach. By exploring the communicative purposes behind these speeches, this research summarizes the genre characteristics of these speeches, provides a new research perspective for public speeches and helps audiences better understand TED speeches.
