摘要

亨利·詹姆斯是一位杰出的小说家和文学理论家。他早期小说大多反映“国际主题”，很明显表现了欧洲和美国文化之间的关系。《黛西·米勒》是亨利·詹姆斯的成名作，描绘的是美丽的美国女孩黛西·米勒被她老练的同胞温特伯恩追求的故事。本文以《黛西·米勒》为例，探讨了新旧大陆之间的文化冲突，主要展现了两种文化的相斥，把冲突分为观念冲突和行为冲突，分析女性观、等级观念、社交行为、表达爱的方式等方面具体的表现来揭示文化的差异，认为我们在跨文化交际中必须保持开放和平等的立场。

Abstract

Henry James is an outstanding novelist and literary theorist. His early novels most often reflect the “international theme”, that is, the relationship between the European and American cultures. Daisy Miller made Henry James become famous. It depicts the story of a beautiful American girl, Daisy Miller, who is pursued by the sophisticated compatriot, WinterBourne. This thesis, taking Daisy Miller as an example, explores the cultural conflicts between the Old and the New Worlds of America and Europe and mainly shows the contradiction between the two cultures. The conflict is divided into concept conflict and behavior conflict, through revealing the conflict in the aspect of female conception, sense of hierarchy, social communication and expression of love, this essay indicates that it is essential that we keep an open and equal stance in crosscultural communication.
