The study of Harry Potter: From the Perspective of Freudian Death Instinct Theory_英语论文

摘要

20世纪90年代后期，英国女作家J.K罗琳相继推出了她的《哈利·波特》系列魔幻小说，随即热销世界。随后，该系列小说被翻译成几十种语言，并且被改编成系列电影。自《哈利·波特》受到瞩目以来，越来越多的学者对其进行了研究，渐渐地其文学价值也超过了本身儿童文学的领域，研究范围呈现多元化趋势。但是纵观国内外对《哈利·波特》的研究现状，大多数的研究范围主要集中在儿童文学、奇幻表现形式、神话原型、叙事学和译介等几个方面。相反，《哈利·波特》中人性的严肃主题，一直没有得到应有的关注。事实上，全书一开始就将人性的严肃主题赋予在主人公哈利的身上。与此同时，全书中马尔福与伏地魔两个凸显的反面角色，集中而又互补性地体现了死亡本能的多种理论。通过对反面人物马尔福和伏地魔一系列蜕变经历的描写，罗琳传达了人性中死亡本能这一深刻的哲学意蕴。本论文抛开传统的正面人物研究角度，选择以反面人物马尔福和伏地魔为研究对象，探索并剖析这两个反面人物身上人性的死亡本能这一严肃主题。

Abstract

In late 1990s, British writer J. K Rowling launched her series of fantasy novels Harry Potter, which was sold very well all over the world. In the following years, the series of novels were translated into dozens of languages, and were adapted into a series of movies. Since it won great attention, more and more scholars have studied it. Gradually, its literary value is more than that in the field of children literature, and the study fields show a trend of diversification. But looking over the domestic and foreign researches of Harry Potter, most of researches are mainly focused on the fields of children literature, fantasy, myth and archetypal forms of narrative and translation and so on. On the contrary, the serious humanity theme of Harry Potter has not got enough attention since it was launched. In fact, the beginning of the whole novels has bestowed the serious humanity theme on the protagonist in the novels, Harry Potter. At the same time, the two distinct antagonists in the novels, Malfoy and Voldemort, demonstrate the various theories of death instinct in a different but complementary way. Through the description of their series of development experiences, Rowling conveys the profound philosophical implication of death instinct in human nature. This paper puts aside the traditional perspectives which focused on positive characters but to choose the negative characters, Voldemort and Malfoy, as the research object to explore and analyze the serious humanity theme, the death instinct.
