摘要

美国梦从都是一代代美国人所追求的目标和梦想，是美国精神文化的一个剪影。“美国梦”长期以往一直是几乎所有美国人所坚信的信仰，在一般人眼中，美国梦本应具有顽强的生命力，可为何逐渐地走向衰败呢？《了不起的盖茨比》无疑是那个经济大萧条时期描述美国梦最形象、最深刻也是最有普世价值的一本小说，它的价值让我们意识到了：如果人们只是片面、狂热地追求物质财富和社会地位，而不去冷静下来思考人生目的何在？人为什么而活着？这类基本人生问题。那么美国人所追求的终究是亭台楼阁，也一定是没有生命力而又短视的梦想。我们之所以要了解《了不起的盖茨比》中的美国梦的幻灭:警示现在的年轻人，面对现如今物欲横流的社会，我们应该秉持正确的人生观、金钱观、价值观，让金钱成为满足生活基本需求和实现人生价值和幸福的助力，而不能将对财富的追求作为人生的最终目标，从而变成一个没有道德底线、腐化贪婪的赚钱机器。
