摘要

马克·吐温是美国现实主义文学奠基人之一，1835年11月30日出生在美国密苏里州佛罗里达乡村贫穷律师家庭。这个出生日期和地点都和其种族观的形成关系十分密切。在美国历史上，要求彻底废除黑人奴隶制的群众运动(即废奴运动)，从19世纪30年代初已开始在北部陆续展开，而密苏里州又是联邦的奴隶州，因此，年轻的吐温便得以了解奴隶制，这些直接经验成为了往后在他的历险小说中反对种族歧视、倡导民族平等主题的重要来源。本文以《汤姆·索亚历险记》、《哈克贝利·费恩历险记》和《苦行记》三本小说为例，分析了马克·吐温在土著印第安人、非洲裔黑人、华人叙述背后所隐含的种族观念，探讨了马克·吐温对不同种族的关注和反思，认识到马克·吐温种族观念的复杂性，并体会到马克吐温作为一个知识分子对美国社会所抱持的那种强烈的社会责任感与使命感。
