摘要

以史为鉴，可以明得失。人类进程中的重大历史事件，实际上标志了社会制度的改变，体现了社会结构的转换。其中涌现的关键性的历史人物，在特定的时间节点，对历史进程的改变，有着重要影响。对历史事件以及关键历史性人物进行评述，可以更好的通过把握史脉以了解当下，指引未来。本文运用历史分析和案例分析的方式，致力于研究美国制度的平等推进。在美国历史上的几个重要时期，平等具有多种含义。美国对平等权利的认同与追求依次表现为：道义上的平等、法律上的平等和自由主义式的平等。道义上的平等充其量是一个集体意义上的政治目标，而不是个人意义上的那种平等；法律上的平等被限制在政治权利方面，而经济平等不是它所追求的；自由主义式的平等，着眼于弱势阶层的权利被侵害的社会现实，进而关注平等的实质内容。

文章首先阐述了美国独立战争、南北内战、六十年代黑人民权运动等几大重要历史事件的时代背景，其次从里程碑式事件对社会所产生的影响，来探讨美国制度中平等的进步，然后点明现存制度的缺陷及现实社会的不平等现实，最后为如何推进社会平等提出建议，如清醒认识运动的要求，提前做好社会动员，捍卫已取得的成绩不被抹杀等。
