从《哈利•波特与阿兹卡班的囚徒》中译本看文学翻译的异化与归化

An Analysis on Foreignization and Domestication of Literature Translation – with Reference to the Simplified Chinese Version of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban 

摘要

异化/归化的讨论是翻译当中经常会遇到的问题，在不同时代具有不同的表现形式。随着时间的推移，这一讨论的内容不断深化发展，从最初的直译/意译之争发展到了语言层面和文化层面的多角度考虑，成为跨文化翻译中不可避免要面对和处理的问题。《哈利·波特》系列小说是英国作家 J·K·罗琳的作品，自出版以来一直在全球不同语言、不同年龄的读者当中广受欢迎。该系列的第三部《哈利·波特与阿兹卡班的囚徒》英文版于 1999 年 9 月出版发行，简体中文译本由人民文学出版社于 2000 年 10 月 6 日出版发行。本书继承前两部的风格，其生动精彩的文笔和扣人心弦的故事情节在中国读者中广受赞誉，但与此同时，该书在翻译方面的一些处理方法也受到了一定质疑。本文以《哈利·波特与阿兹卡班的囚徒》人民文学出版社译本为主，探讨异化/归化的翻译方法在文学翻译中的使用，并就该书的翻译处理方法发表看法。

ABSTRACT

Foreignization/domestication is a frequently tackled topic in translation discussions. The content of this topic has been developed constantly since this theory first appeared. As time passed by, it has now evolved from the simple discussion on literal /free translation to the complex discussion on lingual difference, cultural diversification and other factors. The Harry Potter series is the work of British author J.K Rowling. It is warmly received by readers of different ages and cultures. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is the third book of this series. It was published in September 1999, with the simplified Chinese version published on October 6th 2000. The Chinese version carries on the delicate style of its previous two books. Its vivid description and breath-taking plots have won extensive recognition among Chinese readers. Meanwhile, there are also some parts of the translation that are not agreed by all readers, which brought about doubts and discussions. This thesis uses the simplified Chinese version of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban published by the People’s Literature Publishing House as an example to discuss the adoption of foreignization/domestication in literature translation.
