基于礼貌原则分析国际商务信函中的负面消息的表达策略

An Analysis of the Expression Strategies of Negative Messages in International Business Letters Based on Politeness Principle

摘要

随着全球经济一体化的迅猛发展，跨国商务活动日益频繁，国际商务信函逐渐成为人们在经济领域中的一个重要交际手段，是开展对外经济贸易业务和有关商务活动的重要工具。国际商务英语信函有其独特的语言特色，在布局谋篇和遣词造句方面有其自身的特点。负面消息在商务沟通中是在所难免的，本文旨在以礼貌原则为理论指导，重点从用词，用句和语篇等三个层面分析国际商务英语信函中的负面消息的表达策略，研究如何使用恰当、得体的语言有效传递所要表达的内容，减轻面子威胁行为对对方造成的负面影响的同时让对方容易接受，并维系良好的商业关系。同时本文会提出在撰写过程中所发现的问题以及建议，希望能够帮助人们在商务沟通中更好地理解和运用礼貌策略来表达自己的意图，帮助人们提高商务信函的写作能力，进而使人们成功地进行交流沟通。

ABSTRACT

With the rapid development of global economic integration and increasingly frequent cross-border business activities, international business letters gradually become an important means of communication in the economic field, and an important tool for developing foreign economic and trade businesses and related business activities. International English business letters have their unique language features, and the layout and wording of which have their own characteristics. The negative messages can be hardly avoided in business communication. This paper aims to analyze the expression strategies of negative messages in international business letters, from the three aspects of words, sentences and discourse, at the theoretical basis of politeness principle, and study how to use appropriate language words for effectively expressing the contents or thoughts, so that the negative effects to the other side caused by face-threatening acts (FTA) can be alleviated, the other side can be easy to accept and then a good business relationship can be maintained. Meanwhile, this paper will propose some problems and suggestions found in the process of writing, aiming to help people to better understand the business communication and learn the use of politeness strategies to express their intentions, and help people to improve their abilities of writing business letters, so that people can communicate in a successful way.
