沙博理《水浒传》英译本中的官职翻译策略分析_英语论文

Translation Strategies of Official Titles in English Version of Outlaws of the Marsh by Sidney Shapiro

摘要

《水浒传》作为中国古典文学的代表作之一，深受国内外读者的喜欢，其精炼的语言，严谨的结构，严密的逻辑，错综复杂的故事情景，经典的人物形象都是促其成为经典的原因。为了更好地、更完整地将这部作品呈现给外国读者，让外国读者能够完整感受这部作品丰富的历史渊源与文化内涵，就需要更加恰当的英译策略。在意译和归化策略的指导下，本文将对沙博理的《水浒传》英译本中的官职的恰当英译策略进行研究探讨。

本文主要分为三个章节。除介绍中包含了本文的研究背景和意义、论文的研究方法以及论文的结构外，作者在第一个章节给出了水浒传及其翻译版本的文献综述、过往对《水浒传》不同翻译版本的研究以及《水浒传》中使用的翻译策略。在第二章中，作者介绍了宋代的官职以及其在《水浒传》中的分类和重要性。第三章是重中之重，作者选取了部分典型例子进行具体研究并得出结论：沙博理在翻译《水浒传》中的官职时主要使用了意译和归化的翻译策略。

Abstract

As one of the representative works of classical Chinese literature, Shui Hu Zhuan was deeply loved by readers at home and abroad. Its refined language, compact structure, rigorous logic, intricate plots, and classic character all contributed to the charm and beauty of this novel. Feasible English translation strategies are required in order to present this novel to foreign readers in a clearer and more complete way which can help foreign readers fully understand the historical and cultural connotation of Shui Hu Zhuan. This thesis, in light of free translation and domestication, researches the translation strategies of official titles of Outlaws of the Marsh, one of the most well-known translation versions of Shui Hu Zhuan.

This article consists of three chapters. In addition to the introduction presenting the research background and significance of this paper, the research methods and structure of the paper, the author gave a literature review of Outlaws of the Marsh and different translation versions, previous studies on the different translation versions of Shui Hu Zhuan and finally the translation strategies that have been commonly used in Chapter One. In Chapter Two, the author introduced the official position of the Song Dynasty and its classification and importance in Shui Hu Zhuan. Chapter Three is the most important part. The author selected some typical examples to carry out research and concluded that Shapiro mainly used free translation and domestication translation strategies in his translation of the official titles in Outlaws of the Marsh.
