A Genre Analysis of Profile Texts on the Official Website of Stanford University

摘要

斯坦福大学是一所世界排名前十的私立研究型大学。斯坦福大学的官方网站是一个向外界展现学校文化和特色的平台。斯坦福大学官方网站上的介绍性文本有着独特的语言特征和体裁结构，对于介绍和宣传学校起到了重要作用。通过对斯坦福大学官方网站介绍性文本的体裁进行分析，有助于了解介绍性文本的体裁结构和其对交流和教育的影响。

本论文分为四个部分。第一部分简单介绍体裁的定义和特征；第二部分介绍斯坦福大学官方网站上介绍性文本中应用的体裁，并分析其词汇特征和句法特征；第三部分主要运用语步分析法分析新闻和学院介绍的语步结构，指出可选语步和必选语步，并说明学院介绍中的体裁混合现象；第四部分概括体裁分析对交流和教育等方面的重要影响。

Abstract

Stanford University is a private research university, ranking as a top-ten university in the world. The official website of Stanford University is the platform for presenting culture and characteristics of the university to the public. The profile texts on the official website have their own linguistic features and genre structure, and play an important role on introducing and publicizing the university. Through analyzing the genre of profile texts on the official website of the Stanford University, the genre structure and influences on communication and education of profile texts can be understood.

This paper is divided into four parts. In the first part, the definition and the features of genre will be given a brief introduction. The second first introduces two genres, which are applied in the profile texts on official website of Stanford university, and then analyzes their lexical and syntactic features. In the third part, an attempt will be made to explore the move structure of news and department introduction by using move-step analysis, then obligatory moves and optional moves will be demonstrated, and finally genre mixing in department introduction will be presented. The fourth part summarizes the influences of genre analysis on many fields, such as communication and education.
