Culture, Nature, and Humanity: An analysis of Buck’s transformation in The Call of the Wild

摘要

本文以巴克的转变为出发点，以《野性的呼唤》中的现实主义手法和自然主义题材为基础，试图分析其无奈的成因、社会根源和解决方法。本文将巴克的转变划分为三个阶段：文化适应、自然选择和人性升华，通过梳理巴克转变各个阶段的细节，侧面揭露人类罪行，寻求人类与自然和谐相处的全新状态。同时，巴克的经验应运用于人，以探索作者笔下反映的文化现状、生态观和人性。

Abstract

Based on the realistic style and the naturalistic themes in The Call of the Wild, the study takes the changes of Buck as the starting point to analyze its helpless causes, social origins and possible solutions. In this paper, the transformation of Buck is divided into three phases: cultural adaptation, natural selection and sublimation of humanity. By sorting out all stages of Buck’s changes in key details, the paper is supposed to expose human crime and explore a new state of human living in harmony with nature. Also, the experience of Buck needs to be applied to people, aiming to explore the writer’s hidden reflection of cultural situation, ecological views and humanity.
