《德伯家的苔丝》中苔丝的悲剧成因分析

A Brief Study of the Factors of Tess’s Tragedy

摘要

《德伯家的苔丝》是英国著名小说家托马斯·哈代的代表作。主人公苔丝在精神上和肉体上受到两个男性的摧残，由一个天真活泼的少女转变成世俗偏见的受害者，并最终沦为一名杀人犯走上刑场。许多评论家认为命运是导致苔丝悲剧的根本原因，的确，命运在一定程度上酿成了苔丝的悲剧。但是，除此之外，还有其他因素直接或间接造成了这场悲剧。因此本文将从三个方面深入剖析造成苔丝悲剧的原因，这三个方面分别是：社会，家庭和性格。

Abstract

Tess of the D’ Urbervilles is a representative work of Thomas Hardy who is a famous British writer. The beautiful, pure, and kind protagonist, Tess, has been tortured by two men, in both mentally and physically, which changing a girl form an innocent one into a notorious murderer. A great number of critics thought that fate was the basic cause of Tess’s tragedy. Indeed, fate contributes to Tess’s tragedy, but beyond that, there are other factors that directly or indirectly cause the tragedy. Therefore, this paper will describe the reasons of the tragedy from three different aspects: social, family, and characteristics.
